The Review
If you’ve been on the vaping scene for a while, you’ve likely heard of GeekVape. The company produces some outstanding tanks and RBAs . Like the Griffin, the maker picks up another mythology themed name in the Zeus.
The name pretty much describes what you need to know. The Zeus is a dual RTA (rebuildable tank atomizer). That means that unlike some of the other popular tanks out there, you have to bring your own coils (or get some nifty premade ones).
What the name doesn’t mention are some of the other features. After all the Zeus Dual RTA 4ml Top Fill Postless Tank would kind of be a mouthful.
I’ll break down the features shortly, but first let’s talk looks. The Zeus is available in several colors in addition to the black that GearBest sent me for review. Each tank has an etched portrait of Zeus on the side of the chimney cover inside the tank along with the word Zeus emblazoned on two sides of the bottom section, just in case you forgot which tank you’re using.
There’s an airflow adjustment ring that sits on top of the glass tank. The ring features little grooves to make it easier to grip. The bottom part of the tank has matching grooves while the filling cap and drip tip assembly is smooth.
Twisting that very top section a half turn releases it from the tank to expose the two slots for filling. The slots are wide enough to fit just about any type of eliquid bottle for filling without making a huge mess.
Unscrewing the bottom section will reveal the build deck. The build deck is what makes the Zeus truly unique. Missing are the customary posts you’ll find on typical build decks. Instead, you’ll see four holes on the surface of the deck.
Beneath each hole on the side of the deck are tiny standard screws. These screws work just like any other build deck where you loosen them, insert the wire from your coil and then tighten them again.
Before I received the Zeus Dual RTA, I had assumed these postless connectors were spring loaded. Alas, that was not the case. But, even worse is that instead of hex or phillips screws, these are slotted screws.
You still get the little orange T-shaped screwdriver that seems to come with every rebuildable. But, unlike those, this one has a phillips and two slotted screw drivers. Yep, there’s another little tool you’ll end up losing.
Despite my grumbling, mounting coils isn’t difficult, it’s just a little different. First. you have to cut the coil leads to length. The excess wire doesn’t come out the other side like it does with traditional build decks. I found there was a little bit of guesswork involved, but once you figured out where to cut things, it’s a simple matter of placing the coils into the right spot and tightening the screws.
Clearances are a bit tight, so you may have to do some manipulation to keep larger coils from touching each other and grounding out. Very thick wire may also not fit into the wire holes easily. Of course you can also run a single coil instead. No special adapter is needed, simply wire it with one lead on either side.
Adding the wick is fairly straight forward for anyone who’s used a rebuildable. Run the cotton through the coils and then tuck a little excess into the slots on the deck.
There is a bit of a balancing act. It is possible to put too much cotton in the slots causing wicking problems and the dreaded dry burn.
On the other hand, the tank is more forgiving if you don’t put quite enough cotton in there. It’s not very prone to leaking, and if it did it would leak out of the top instead of the bottom. Instead, you’re more likely to run into flooding and gurgling issues if you end up not putting enough wicking material in the deck.
The design of the Zeus RTA makes it a very versatile tank. You can run a pair of low resistance coils at fairly high voltages. The easy flow of the big drip tip will ensure that big clouds will come your way.
If you’re more of a mouth to lung vaper, try a single coil with a 510 drip tip. The 4ml capacity will make sure that you can keep vaping for a long time. Sure it’s a little more fiddly than a pod system or all-in-one device but it’s a great way to transition into different vaping styles if you’d like to try it out.
GeekVape created a great tank in the Zeus Dual RTA. It’s a good looking device with an okay capacity and good construction. I’m a little disappointed with the build deck, but it works well once you get the hang of it.
